Helicopter Appraisals

OakTree Aviation Services provides helicopter appraisals for general aviation and business aviation use cases, with assignments structured for lender, legal, fiduciary, and owner reliance.

Helicopter valuation requires specific industry and model expertise. Rotor‑wing aircraft involve many time‑ and life‑limited components, major inspection events, and a wide range of avionics and equipment configurations. Effective appraisal work must account for these factors, as well as the numerous upgrades and STCs available today.

Why Helicopter‑Specific Expertise Matters

Generic, canned valuations and guidebook indications often fail to capture the real impact of component times, maintenance status, configuration, and damage history on helicopter value. They typically do not individually evaluate the subject aircraft’s current market value and condition.

For buying, selling, financing, potential litigation, asset verification, donation, or ongoing ownership planning, a helicopter appraisal should reflect:

  • Actual airframe and engine status
  • Time‑ and life‑limited component status
  • Installed equipment and modifications
  • Maintenance programs and support arrangements
  • Relevant market conditions as of the effective date

Our helicopter appraisals are designed to address these items directly.

Helicopter Appraisal Options

Our helicopter appraisers have the training, tools, and experience to perform several types of appraisal assignments, including standard certified and USPAP‑compliant reports.

Depending on the assignment’s requirements, we provide:

  • USPAP‑compliant helicopter appraisals for higher‑reliance uses such as lending, estate and legal matters, litigation, and IRS‑related reporting.
  • Certified helicopter appraisals (non‑USPAP) for assignments where a full USPAP report is not required but a professionally prepared opinion of value, supported by inspection and market data, is still necessary.

All assignments include on‑site inspection and full review of logbooks and records; we do not provide “desktop” or no‑inspection helicopter valuations.

We are experienced with piston‑ and turbine‑powered helicopters, including many legacy and current production models.

Geographic Coverage and Turnaround

We serve northern, central, and southern California, as well as the broader western region, with office locations in central and southern California. On‑site inspections are coordinated to match the assignment’s scope, location, and timing requirements.

Turn time depends on aircraft complexity, record condition, and assignment scope. As a general guideline, most helicopter appraisal reports are completed within a few working days after inspection and receipt of records. Retrospective (historical effective date) opinions can be developed when requested and appropriate to the assignment.

How to Request a Helicopter Appraisal

For helicopter appraisal inquiries, please contact us or use our appraisal information request form. We will discuss:

  • Aircraft make/model, configuration, and location
  • Intended use (financing, sale, legal, donation, etc.)
  • Inspection logistics and record availability
  • Appropriate appraisal type (USPAP‑compliant or certified)
  • Fee estimates and anticipated turnaround time

From there, we will outline a clear scope of work and next steps for your helicopter appraisal assignment.
